YOUTH GROUP
Youth Ministry Goals: 1) To see God change the hearts of our youth so that they joyfully claim Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. 2) To see spiritual growth in our youth leading to a life dedicated to Jesus Christ and service through a local New Testament Church.
"Let no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, faith, love and purity, show yourself as an example of those who believe." 1 Timothy 4:12 Monthly Parent Link Check out the YOUTH Website
Sunday School
We have Sunday school separated by age (Middle School/High School) which begins on Sunday mornings at 9:30 am. Both classes begin in the Youth Room on the second floor for a time of announcements and prayer, then divide up for the Bible Study. This is a time of solid Bible teaching and looking at how Scripture applies to our young peoples’ lives in Virginia Beach in 2009.
Evening Studies
Sunday Nights: We meet on Sunday nights from
5:30 – 7:00 pm. The first part is an activity time for fun and
fellowship. We love tag football, hide and seek, ping pong
tournaments, and paper airplane races. We then have a time of Bible
study with an emphasis on not only gaining head knowledge but
learning principles to be applied to our lives. Every Sunday
Night our
Bible Study emphasis will be on the life and teaching of Jesus.
Wednesday Nights: Dinner for the whole family is served at 5:30 pm. From 6:30-7:30 pm the youth meet together for games and Bible study. This study varies in format with a blend between Bible book studies and topical studies, but always builds on itself with units lasting about 6-8 weeks.
Other Events/Activities:
We have several extra activities each month. Fun nights range from laser tag to lock-ins, football to flashlight tag, and movie nights to messy games. We also participate in mission activities which have included serving a Judeo Christian Outreach Center, packing chaplain kit to go overseas to our military personnel, and participating in many church wide outreach and mission events. “Helping children reach their God-given potential through Christ.”
Nursery
Nursery is provided during all services for infants and children through age three. The Nursery provides a clean, happy place, staffed with loving people who care for our children. The nursery and preschool rooms open fifteen minutes before the start of services. We have a Nursery/Toddlers Coordinator who oversees this ministry.
Sunday School
We believe it is important to start children on their spiritual journey from the earliest possible age. In Sunday school, children are taught the Bible on a level they can understand and in an environment of love and support. Children are a blessing from God, and we consider it a privilege to minister to them. Jesus told us that we are to do our part in bringing children to Him (Matthew 19:14). At Great Neck, we want to provide a loving environment where children are taught the Bible and nurtured in faith.
AWANA
Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed 2 Timothy 2:15
On Wednesday evenings from 6- 7:30pm, trained leaders guide children through the Bible using age-appropriate materials. The goal of AWANAs is to reach boys and girls with the gospel of Christ and to train them to serve Him. Games, Bible messages, and scripture memory are all a part of AWANAs. This program is designed for children age three through sixth grade, and meets from September to May.
Children’s Church
On Sunday mornings, children age four through third grade are offered a worship service designed to help them learn about God. Bible stories, singing, praying, and various activities are used to help reach and teach children about God’s love.
Women on a Mission: Monthly meetings at the Atria. More details to follow in an upcoming newsletter, but begin thinking about how you can support this important event.
